Atomic Hydrogen in the Mineral Brasilianite

چکیده

EPR parameters for atomic hydrogen in three nonequivalent special positions at the twofold axis of the monoclinic structure of brazilianite, formed by X-ray irradiation at room temperature, are reported. The ^-factors are practically isotropic and close to the free electron value, but the hyperfine splittings exhibit considerable anisotropy. One of the centers shows an additional doublet splitting, most likely due to hyperfine interaction with the proton of one of the OH groups. These hydrogen atoms have the highest thermal stability yet reported. With repeated thermal destruction and formation by ionizing radiation one of the centers is rapidly depleted. Thus they must be formed at defect sites, not from the undisturbed OH groups, and trapped near the sites of formation and their thermal destruction must a t least in part be irreversible. Possible defects for their formation are discussed.

Interaction of atomic hydrogen with monometallic Au(100), Cu(100), Pt(100) surfaces and surface of bimetallic Au@Cu(100), Au@Pt(100) overlayer systems: The role of magnetism

The spin-polarized calculations in generalized gradient approximation density–functional theory (GGA–DFT) have been used to show how the existence of second metals can modify the atomic hydrogen adsorption on Au (100), Cu (100), and Pt (100) surfaces. The computed adsorption energies for the atomic hydrogen adsorbed at the surface coverage of 0.125 ML (monolayer) for the monometallic Au (100), ...

Construction and testing of a hydrogen cracking cell

A UHV atomic hydrogen-cracking cell has been constructed to produce atomic hydrogen in order to perform in-situ cleaning of semiconductor samples. The cell was calibrated and tested with the objective of cleaning the III-V semiconductor samples such as GaAs. Mass spectroscopy studies during the atomic hydrogen cleaning of the GaAs samples revealed the chemical process of the hydrogen cleaning. ...

Characterization of the phosphatic mineral of the barnacle Ibla cumingi at atomic level by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance: comparison with other phosphatic biominerals.

Ibliform barnacles are among the few invertebrate animals harnessing calcium phosphate to construct hard tissue. The (31)P solid-state NMR (SSNMR) signal from the shell plates of Ibla cumingi (Iblidae) is broader than that of bone, and shifted by ca 1 ppm to low frequency. (1)H-(31)P heteronuclear correlation (HETCOR) experiments show a continuum of different phosphorus/phosphate atomic environ...

The interaction of hydrogen with the {010} surfaces of Mg and Fe olivine as models for interstellar dust grains: a density functional theory study

There is no consensus as yet to account for the significant presence of water on the terrestrial planets, but suggested sources include direct hydrogen adsorption from the parent molecular cloud after the planets' formation, and delivery of hydrous material via comets or asteroids external to the zone of the terrestrial planets. Alternatively, a more recent idea is that water may have directly ...

Influence of hydrogen gas over the interference of acids in inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry.

The effect of hydrogen gas on the plasma and its influence on acid interferences in plasma atomic emission spectrometry was studied. The study was performed with HCl and HNO(3) in the concentration range of 0-2 mol l(-1). Vanadium and magnesium were used as test elements, the study was extended to other several elements. The effects of hydrogen gas on the plasma were studied by measuring excita...
